Spektio Setup Guide: Start Monitoring in 5 Minutes

How do you set up Spektio? Creating an observer account, the observation key, downloading the app, connecting a device, and the first data flowing into your dashboard — a step-by-step setup guide.

Setting up Spektio and watching the first data flow into your dashboard takes about five minutes. This guide walks through every step in order, from creating an account to seeing your first activity report.

Key concepts: the Observer and the monitored device

Spektio is built around two roles. The Observer is the account owner — you view the reports from the web dashboard. The monitored device (the Subject) is the computer where the Spektio app is installed and which collects the data.

The two roles are linked by an observation key: this unique key, which starts with SPK-, pairs the monitored device with your account.

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1Create an account: set up a free observer account at spektio.com. You can sign in with email or with Google.
  2. 2Find your observation key: once you log in to the dashboard, your personal SPK- key appears at the top. Copy this key.
  3. 3Download the app: download the Windows version from the "Add Device" step in the dashboard.
  4. 4Install it on the monitored computer: run the downloaded file and complete the installation. You need one-time access to that device to do this.
  5. 5Enter the key: when the app opens, paste your observation key and confirm. The device connects to your account within seconds.
  6. 6Open the dashboard: go back to the dashboard on your own device; the device shows as "online" and activity data starts flowing within 30 seconds.

Tip: Don't share your observation key with anyone. Anyone who has this key can connect a device to your account.

First things to do after setup

  • Name the device: if you're going to connect more than one device, give each a recognizable name in the dashboard so you can tell them apart.
  • Add blocking rules: add distracting sites from the "Website Blocking" section.
  • Turn on notifications: enable email alerts for events such as an attempt to reach a blocked site, a game launching, or a new device.
  • Explore the history: use the date picker to browse reports from previous days.

What to do if no data is flowing

  • Check the device's internet connection; Spektio needs a connection to send data to the server.
  • Make sure the key was entered correctly (with the SPK- prefix and in full).
  • Allow a few minutes for the first sync, then check that the "last seen" time is updating in the dashboard.
  • If the problem persists, write to us from the Support section inside the dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need physical access to the monitored computer to set it up?

Yes, you need access to that device once to install the app and enter the observation key. After that, everything is managed from the web dashboard on your own device.

How many devices can I connect to one account?

You can connect more than one device to a single observer account. Each device is listed separately in the dashboard and its reports are kept distinct.

How long does it take for data to appear in the dashboard?

While the monitored device is online, data is updated roughly every 30 seconds, so you see it in the dashboard in near real time.
